Substance Abuse & Addiction Counselor Training in Georgia

The Academy is now an approved continuing education provider for the ADACBG! Learn more here

As in most states, Georgia has a structured substance abuse and addiction counselor certification process. Counselors-to-be must complete the required educational and experiential requirements in order to be eligible for licensure. The Academy for Addiction Professionals offers in person and distance learning courses to fulfill some or all of those requirements by teaching to the Florida Certification Board’s Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) level.  Those who ultimately receive their certification through the Florida Certification Board may take advantage of reciprocity in many jurisdictions, including the state of Georgia. The process of reciprocation in other states is managed and administered by the IC&RC and its member organizations including the FCB.

Those interested in taking distance learning and online classes from Georgia should be aware of the requirements set for the by the local certification or licensure board. In the case of the state of Georgia, this is the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia or ADACB-GA. The ADACB-GA was founded in 1992 and, as with most addiction certification boards, is committed to the highest level of ethical and professional development in our field.

Please not that every board, regardless of their reciprocity status, will have standards for eligibility of reciprocity. It is extremely important that students wishing to take distance learning classes understand the limitations and requirements imposed by the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia. Rules and regulations should be researched and understood before any classes are taken.

We suggest that you contact the IC&RC as well as the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia to learn more about specific requirements and the number of education hours that can be taken online or as part of a distance learning program. Feel free to contact us to learn more about our program and understand what other students in your particular situation have experienced. We look forward to helping you gain the proper educational training as stipulated by your board.
